What JD rye flavor profile is the barrel proof closest to or is all JD Rye the same, just different proof or age? Only had the JD Bonded rye & it is good, though OF rye is just as good or better. So based on that, not sure what barrel proof option to get, if can only get 1? The JD barrel proof rye seems to be $20-30 less than OF Barrel proof rye & easier to find. Kinda of strange being the JD Bonded rye cost much more than OF rye, both 100P.

Like how you 1st reveal the price, then rate the whiskey again, before knowing what bottle it is! That style is extremely useful for people to use when tasting multiple pours.

I came THIS CLOSE to buying a bottle of this back in February, and at $200 too, and this was after watching several favorable reviews, but I just couldn't pull the trigger based on the cost and proof. Still kind of regretting that, and your review didn't help! But I can still be happy with the fact that I have 200+ other bottles of good stuff to help me through the FOMO.

I've never seen it. I won't buy it for secondary prices. One day Costco will have a pallet, and I'll pick up a bottle.

It’s a pretty bottle. I bought last years batch. The neck pour made me sad but it has grown on me and I really like it now. Don’t know if I’ll buy another but on the other hand I have terrible impulse control where whiskey is involved.

For the money I'm okay with one noters!! Just saying. I have a cap for bottles and pours 12-15 is max for a 1.5oz pour for me. If its only a 1.0oz it is 6-8. Rarely do I see 2.0oz pours at bars or Restraunts.

so if you both go out and would get a pour for $40 each, you are a 1/3rd of the way there... I was on a cruise a couple years ago and they had a Pappy23 and they wanted $250 for a pour....I told them to pound sand and got a pour of WT 13 for $7

I still have a first release bottle (and what a gorgeous bottle), which was still pricey but like $50 less, but won’t revisit. To me, in this wheelhouse, the best way to go is Calumet 15 or 16. And I have a Knob Creek 18 that was better priced per year. And then some of the Lucky 7s…. David S

I went through a similar whiskey growth process, but I still love a good old fashioned. And good just means do they use big block ice and don’t do anything crazy to it like kidding oranges and cherries in it or something. If they do any of those two things I’m out.

Just saw this, nice review for the whiskey flavors! This probably won't reach a lot of people, but the price comparisons in the vid were far off. JD Bonded is almost 2Xs the price of OF 100. The $30 MSRP for the JD is for 700mL, though I have never seen it for that price. Here it ranges from $31.49 to $35 + tax. The 1L is even more at $52.99. OF 100 is $42.99 for 1.75L & the Rye is $26-28 for 1L. In MA the JD Bonded can be found at $40.99 1L, though still much higher than OF 100.

Great video on an awesome craft distillery. Hard Truth just touched down in our area, Jackson TN, this week. We got their sweet mash rye, the sub 100 proof rye, the sweet mash BiB wheated bourbon, and their 90 proof sweet mash bourbon. Would love to see those malted ryes roll in too. Best to you both!

The 9yr & 7yr rye can be had in 1.75L for $55 total for either bottle in 2024. The SiB at 120P are only in 750mL, 9-10yr & $58-65, making them almost 3Xs more costly (per unit). So, I mostly go for the value & also KC 9yr is (or was) known to be 1 of the top mixing bourbons, along w OGD 114, OF Rye, etc.

Now I gotta try Rare Breed. Currently sipping 1920, not my favorite either.

Will have to look up what a dram actually is, but like said in the video, it is small. "Drams are still used as units of gun powder, like 12 gauge shells with 3.75 or 4 drams of powder.

Another fun video. On bringing Glen’s to a bar…for me the answer is no. It seems pretentious to me. Even the neighborhood bar I visit occasionally has good whiskey glasses when they do stumble across a good bottle. Not Glen’s, but a narrow rocks like glass that is more than sufficient. I would just feel weird. But then again I used to bring my own pool cue to a bar. So maybe I am worse? 😜

I have yet to try anything from Yellowstone, but it is definitely on my list to check out. I really enjoy your reviews. I also just applied for a job at UPS, maybe we will be coworkers some day 😂
